On most vehicles, a failed fuel pump will not set any diagnostic trouble codes or turn on the Check Engine light (Malfunction Indicator Lamp). The engine will crank normally, and it will have spark, but it will not start because it is not getting any fuel.
The only way to know if a fuel pump is good or bad is to Test It!
If the fuel pressure is below the minimum specifications, the pump may be weak. Or, the fuel filter may be clogged, the fuel pressure regulator

may be defective or an electrical fault in the fuel pump wiring circuit.
Another way to tell if a no-start is due to no fuel is to spray some aerosol starting fluid into the throttle. If the engine starts, runs a few seconds, then dies, it has spark and compression but is not getting any fuel from the fuel pump. No or low fuel pressure may be caused by a faulty pump, which would in turn cause a no-start condition or misfiring and surging.
The Fuel Pump Analyzer cycles a nonflammable solvent through the pump to measure both Fuel Pressure and Fuel Flow Volume, We also check the AMP draw rating. The results are compared to OEM specifications, and if the pump meets the specifications, it removes all doubt as to whether the pump is good or bad...
Should last the life of the vehicle, but it may fail as a result of contamination inside the fuel tank (dirt or rust), fuel starvation (running out of gas), overheating (always driving with a low fuel level), low voltage (wiring problem), or overwork (trying to overcome a restriction caused by a plugged fuel filter). The harder a pump works, the hotter it runs and the more amps it pulls through its power circuit.
When a fuel pump fails, it often just quits without any warning. You are driving along fine one minute, then suddenly your engine stalls and you are stranded alongside the road. Or, you come out to start your car in the morning only to discover it cranks but won't start...

Gas Tank Repair
Just a Reminder!
Frequently running your vehicle on a low gas tank is extremely bad for your fuel pump and fuel system components. On many vehicles, approximately 10-15 times the amount of fuel your fuel pump sends towards your engine gets sent back to your fuel tank. This helps cool down your Fuel Pump in the gastank. By running low on fuel, the fuel in the gastank heats up a lot quicker causing the fuel pump to overheat or even worse, run dry.
Avoid leaving your gas tank low whenever possible.
